[Zine Librarians] email list migrating

Hi All,

Our email and website host, Dream Host, is no longer supporting email
lists. We'll migrate this list sometime before the cutoff on July 21
(International Zine Libraries Day lol).

I pay for the web hosting and so am sort of an involuntary sysadmin with
much needed support from Milo and Joanna. Do any of you have thoughts and
feelings about where this list should move (not Google)? Traffic here has
slowed down considerably. Should we consider dropping the email list
altogether?

Your opinions and expertise are wanted and welcome!

Jenna

Hi! Thanks for managing the listserv, Jenna, Milo, and Joanna! I know that my participation dropped when we switched from google because I never quite got the hang of Dream Host and the emails kept going to spam. I'm in favor of keeping an email list though, and want to get more active without digging through my spam folder (this is on me, for sure!)

<3 you all!

I think it's great to have a place to refer new zine librarians to, for advice and community.
I also think it's good for us in these specific times (both due to politics and climate/disaster related stuff), to have a way to reach out to each other and to communicate.

Is there currently any other zine librarian online location where people can connect?
I'm on several writers' groups that migrated from Facebook to Slack. Slack allows a group to have various topics, so as writers we have things like General, News, Publishing, Rants, etc. It notifies you when there's a new post. I don't know anything about how it was set up or how it is monitored.

I love this email list, even though Gmail consistently, despite my
"training" it, files these emails under spam, like a cat that insists on
peeing on the sofa.

To be honest, I will cease active participation if this isn't an
email-based discussion because I maintain a hard line between my work life
and my personal life, and I don't use any other platforms for work except
for internal ones like Confluence and AirTable (Telegram, Reddit, etc. are
all in my personal sphere). That said, I'm not the most important voice in
the room.

Also, I would be willing to pay for the web hosting if you wanted some
relief from that, Jenna.

With all good wishes,

Jenny

Another email list option we currently use at my place of work is Groups.iohttps://groups.io/static/pricing. It is simple to use and seems relatively affordable, even allowing group members to help contribute to the cost of the subscription trough a sponsorship featurehttps://groups.io/helpcenter/manual/ownersmanual/donationsandsponsorships/sponsorship_feature.htm.

Results of the Milo & Jenna huddle: we're going to test
https://www.mailmanhost.com. We'll try to keep the list's current name, but
it could change to a different domain. There will be a cost, which Milo
will lay out and solicit contributions to help cover it.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions! If we do move to a paid list, I'd

Another email list option we currently use at my place of work is

Jenny

Jenna
