Howdy, I realized I haven't shared that I'm doing a little workshop at the ALA Zine Pavilion: 12:00-1:00 pm: ZineCat: The Zine Union Catalog Join Jenna Freedman, Associate Director of Communications and Zine Librarian at Barnard College Library, for this session about ZineCat (work-in-progress), a union catalog dedicated to zines! It brings together holdings from disparate libraries with divergent metadata schema. The zine union catalog attempts to harmonize, rather than normalize and find mutuality, rather than control of creators and descriptors. The catalog is built on the open access platform Collective Access and is made with zine creators in mind, as much as catalogers and researchers. We’re still just at the prototype stage and embrace new contributors and contributions! Eric and his business partner Lottie are doing discovery work on our Collective Access prototype and will get back to us with recommendations for what to focus on at our grant-funded hack/doc in the fall. Lauren is working on a chapter about the Zine Union Catalog for a book to be published by ALA in 2020. I look forward to talking Zine Union Catalog with folks at the zine librarians unconference in SLC next month.
