Hi All,

I'm in the more practical part of my two-semester digital humanities praxis
class series. The class will choose two or three projects to build out, and
I'd like to propose that we work on a union catalog prototype in Collective
Access (I hope--the DH community loves it some Omeka).

Would anyone feel weird about me working on this with another group? My
plan would be to have this group function as our "client," which would keep
everyone's dreams and demands at the forefront throughout the project. We
may or may not build something that's usable for us, and the project might
not get chose, but I'd really like to see some tangible progress on
building our catalog.

Yes! I am in favor of this plan. (And I hear you about the DH Omeka obsession!). I like the "we may not get anything usable" attitude, because even small gains can be added to the pot. Take advantage of every opportunity to advance the cause, I say!

I have a student building me a catalog in (probably) CA this semester, so holler at us if you need more input...

Also of note, Dianne Laguerta sent us this yesterday:

I haven't had much time to play with it, but basically she used seed
data from QZAP (which she was able to figure out how to do a partial
export from CA!) and Flywheel. Her notes say that it works best
w/Chrome at the moment.

Hello Jenna,

I think this is a great idea, as Jennifer said, this is a low stakes way to build skills.

If you need zine metadata, I can produce it in several easy to digest forms (excel spreadsheet, comma delimited file, etc.).

Also, I could ask my colleague at the St. Kate’s Library Science program about his work in Collective Access. If there is anything that comes out of this project he might have the expertise (and student labor) to help build it further.
