NEH Grant Update

Dear ZUC-kers (and blind copied scholar supporters),

I have some not-that-bad news: in consultation with my professor, Lisa
Rhody, who is invested in our project and in my group mates and me, I have
concluded that it would be advisable to delay our NEH application for six
months.

Lisa spoke with an NEH program officer (PO) who gave her feedback on our
materials that we really need to have a committed and engaged principle
investigator (PI). That person cannot be Lisa because she's already PI on
another project. It cannot be me or any of my classmates because we are
degree seeking students. We have someone else at CUNY in mind, but that
person is currently on leave having very recently produced a tiny human. We
had thought we could sort of slip someone in, but the PO was like đźš«.

Additionally, the changes the the PO recommended could take time and
discussion to make. I'm happy to have the chance to talk the grant over in
person at the unconference this summer and/or via other means with people
who can't attend ZLUC.

I want to acknowledge that many of youo rushed support documentation
together and thank you for doing so. Your letters, resumes, and bios will
still be used, but not until the next round in December. The PO advised
Lisa that the NEH is operating as if it still exists until told otherwise,
and that she is reasonably confident that there will be a call for
applications in six months. 🙏

Lisa is also going to help look for other grant opportunities, and I think
we should take another shot at the Knight Grant, since we now actually have
a prototype to build out.

Please feel welcome and encouraged to yell at me for wasting your precious
time. If you're really mad, you can throw clumps of vegan mac & cheese at
my head (preferably sealed and not too hot).

With Zine Library Love, Jenna

Hey Jenna,

I feel your pain. This crap is hard to coordinate and timing is everything.
I ain't goin' nowhere and I'm hoping the NEH isn't either. I'll keep my
eyes peeled for additional grant opportunities in the meantime...

Thanks for all your hard work, everybody – we'll get there!
