Dear Zine Union Catalog list members,
Things have been since we won the NEH Chairs Grant
https://zines.barnard.edu/news/neh-chairs-award-zine-union-catalog for
ZineCat about a year and a half ago, for many reasons. Organizing both ZLuC
and the ZineCat planning meeting was maybe not the best idea,
and communications suffered, probably along with other things.
So, here's a belated recap for those who aren't part of ZineCat working
groups or for other reasons have fallen out of the loop.
- We held a ZineCat planning meeting in August
https://www.zinelibraries.info/wiki/union-catalog-work-space/zine-union-catalog-planning-meeting-2024/
- We ratified a spokes council decision making process, currently with
four spokes and a not-yet-activated queerleading squad
- Fundraising
- Tech
- Metadata
- Membership and Outreach
- Herders (one member of each of the above groups, currently: Lauren,
Pablo, Rhonda, and Jenna)
- We planned on holding an update meeting at the Zine Pavilion at ALA,
using the remaining grant fund to support participation for people without
other funding to attend
- The NEH canceled our grant; we're working on an appeal
- If the money doesn't re-materialize/we don't get $8ish thousand from a
zine fairy, those attending ALA anyway will give a presentation on ZineCat
- Please let us know if you'd like to join a working group
- Feel free to zine fairy us $$$ if you want to fly a Kika from Belgium
to Philly and put them up in a modest hotel and buy them a meal or two
(same with a Milo, a Marya, and others from exotic locales like Milwaukee
and Albuquerque)
With lots of goodness in these not-good times, Lauren and Jenna
