Hello Amanda, I think assessment is a great idea. It sounds like your students are trying to create an informative zine that is concerned about the audience taking in psychology information. Some generic learning objectives for this assignment might be: * Design a visually appealing zine about a psychology topic * Create helpful infographics * Use creative images * Play with font * Create a coherent style and tone * Select important psychological information that your audience will find useful * Research important psychological issues facing your audience * Locate resources available to your audience on campus or online * Curate and edit this information down to create something digestible for your audience * Explain a psychological topic for a general audience * Use correct psychological terms for your topic, but define them for your audience * Develop creative metaphors for your topic * Use stories or real life examples to demonstrate relevance If these are the types of learning objectives you have for these students, then perhaps these are the kinds of skills and knowledge you want to see grow as they do this assignment: * Students should improve their ability to communicate complex psychological information to a general audience * Students should learn about freely available psychological resources on campus and online for students * Students should develop visual communication and artistic skills as they create their zines * Students should play with creative forms of communication and expression I imagine students are excited to make zines because it's a creative form of expression that doesn't require a ton of artistic skill. This assignment is also a great opportunity for students to develop empathy for a non-expert audience, creating accessible health information is also a socially just way to share your expertise. You can measure a lot of the learning objects with a rubric and judgement from the professor. I think I would center my data collection pre and post on students feelings about: 1. Creative Growth 2. Social Conscientiousness (empathy for non-experts or folks with limited access to resources) You might develop a good pre and post survey, with the opportunity for students to write their about their feelings and experiences.
