Apologies for duplication to folks who are getting this twice--I forgot
that I use my personal account for the zine lists (stupid irrational
attempt to separate work and private life).

Sounds good—maybe also a brief discussion of potential to reference your
work in the talk that Allison and are giving at the ALCTS prefconference in
June?

http://www.ala.org/alcts/events/ac/2017/vc-sess2

For those of you who don’t remember (and why would you), Allison and I
proposed this for ALA Annual 2016, but were rejected (so sad), but the
conference organizers asked us to resubmit for the virtual preconference,
which was accepted.

"stupid irrational attempt to separate work and private life" is my new tag
line.

So yes, let's talk on Monday. Anyone willing to moderate?

cool. I'll be there.

not sure if the entire class should be there or not. What are the
pros/cons of that?

The question about how to handle multiples is, in my mind, the largest
puzzle of the entire project. I'd suggest not getting too bogged down on
that for your class project but maybe figuring out a temporary less than
ideal solution for  the initial proof of concept.

Hey All,
I really can't make the call this time.  It's happening on one of the
only days I'm in the office for my muggle job next week.

:(  Having said that, I'll check in to the etherpad and try to keep up
with the notes when I get the chance.

RE: handling multiples (especially in Collective Access, which is what
the DH students are using as a test bed):

  1. There is a portion of the CA called "collections" - if you check out
archive.qzap.org and start to look at records for zines you can see
how we're using it.  It's very easy to say that an object (a zine,
in this instance) is part of multiple collections.
  2. When DELETING a record (object and entity, maybe others) CA will ask
if you want to assign it to another record.  I haven't tested this
fully to see if there's a merging of metadata, but it should be
fairly easy to smoodge two records of the same name together.  When
I spoke with Alex, who is one of the DH grad students, the other
night, I mentioned this to him.

Anyway, I'm sorry to be missing the call, and I miss y'all in person all
the time.

xoxoMilo

Hey All,
I really can't make the call this time.  It's happening on one of the only days I'm in the office for my muggle job next week. :(  Having said that, I'll check in to the etherpad and try to keep up with the notes when I get the chance. RE: handling multiples (especially in Collective Access, which is what the DH students are using as a test bed):

  • There is a portion of the CA called "collections" - if you check out archive.qzap.org and start to look at records for zines you can see how we're using it.  It's very easy to say that an object (a zine, in this instance) is part of multiple collections.
  • When DELETING a record (object and entity, maybe others) CA will ask if you want to assign it to another record.  I haven't tested this fully to see if there's a merging of metadata, but it should be fairly easy to smoodge two records of the same name together.  When I spoke with Alex, who is one of the DH grad students, the other night, I mentioned this to him.
Anyway, I'm sorry to be missing the call, and I miss y'all in person all the time.
    xoxoMilo

1. There is a portion of the CA called "collections" - if you check
out archive.qzap.org and start to look at records for zines you can
see how we're using it. It's *very* easy to say that an object (a zine, in
this instance) is part of multiple collections.
2. When DELETING a record (object and entity, maybe others) CA will
ask if you want to assign it to another record. I haven't tested this
fully to see if there's a merging of metadata, but it should be fairly easy
to smoodge two records of the same name together. When I spoke with Alex,
who is one of the DH grad students, the other night, I mentioned this to
him.

Anyway, I'm sorry to be missing the call, and I miss y'all in person all
the time.
xoxoMilo

The question about how to handle multiples is, in my mind, the largest
puzzle of the entire project. I'd suggest not getting too bogged down on
that for your class project but maybe figuring out a temporary less than
ideal solution for  the initial proof of concept.
