(i.e. DIY and institutional) to make their resources discoverable. But apar=
t from the Union Catalog we hope to build, our commitment to building somet=
hing open means that other libraries could use the code themselves.
We haven't yet committed to any specific development toolkit. Someone who h=
as skills in Ruby or Python would be as welcome as folks who know their way=
around a LAMP instance. However, the hard part of getting the schema organ=
ized has mostly been done. We've benefitted from folks with good metadata e=
xpertise!
The group is made up of good folks, mostly conflict free, and with the comm=
itment of the Zine Librarian Interest Group who have been investing in this=
in various ways for the last three years. We've all mostly found our own w=
ay to this project - I don't think we've reached out to anyone quite like t=
his before - but we recognize the need for this project in particular to be=
funded, so we're working on that (which is to say, we value the work of co=
ders and think they ought to be paid).
If this sounds like something you're interested in participating in or hear=
ing more about, we'd love to talk more with you. Milo Miller at the Queer Z=
ine Archive Project and Jenna Freedman at Barnard College have been the clo=
sest to this (CC-ed), so if you're game, we'd love to chat.
Thanks!
