</head> <body lang=3D"EN-US" link=3D"blue" vlink=3D"purple"> <div class=3D"WordSection1"> Hi Mark,<o:p></o:p> I’m reaching out on behalf of the <a href=3D"http://zinelibraries.info/">Zine Librarian Interest Group</a>, f= ollowing up on some Twitter back-and-forth from a couple months ago (w/ Kel= ly McElroy and Jenna Freedman). Our group has been laying groundwork for th= e development of a Zine Union Catalog for the last three years. We’re now looking to step into coding and = development, thus our interest in a sympathetic someone(s) to supplement th= e group’s skills.<o:p></o:p> From the get-go, this has been about broadening gener= al access to zines, as well as broadening opportunities for various curator= s of zine collections (i.e. DIY and institutional) to make their resources discoverable. But apart from the Union Catalog we hop= e to build, our commitment to building something open means that other libr= aries could use the code themselves.<o:p></o:p> We haven’t yet committed to any specific develo= pment toolkit. Someone who has skills in Ruby or Python would be as welcome= as folks who know their way around a LAMP instance. However, the hard part of getting the schema organized has mostly been done. We&#82= 17;ve benefitted from folks with good metadata expertise!<o:p></o:p>= The group is made up of good folks, mostly conflict f= ree, and with the commitment of the Zine Librarian Interest Group who have = been investing in this in various ways for the last three years. We’ve all mostly found our own way to this project – I = don’t think we’ve reached out to anyone quite like this before = – but we recognize the need for this project in particular to be fund= ed, so we’re working on that (which is to say, we value the work of coders and think they ought to be paid).<o:p></o:p> If this sounds like something you’re interested= in participating in or hearing more about, we’d love to talk more wi= th you.
