Oh, one other problem ZineWiki has experienced in the last year is a bot registering user after user continuously. Which has led to a massive fake userbase wasting serve space and leads to spam entries. If it's possible set up user registration to deter that, it would be awesome. I think we need to work on ZineWiki's help pages, Wikis have gotten a lot more robust since they were written and also some of the files linked in them are broken. I can look into it in a few weeks, but I'm doing press and promotions for the NW Pinball & Arcade Show and it's in 2 weekends, my life is insanely busy right now. I updated the main page to say that ZineWiki is up and running well again and people should resume editing and article creation. In June I think we should go back to featuring a new zine every month as the lead article so it starts looking different and updated when people visit. Hello Jenna, Not to throw a wrench in your info boxes plans, but I wonder if we should consider an alternative? Wikipedia info boxes are stored as linked data in DBpedia. If we figured our a way to create the infrastructure on the back end of Zinewiki/Wikimedia, we could harvest Wikipedia infoboxes from DBpedia. It's also work. And, honestly, I don't know how to create more structured data (infoboxes) without first creating them in Wikipedia. I don't know what it would take to make Zinewiki a hub for DBpedia to harvest structured data. If we don't do this linked data approach, I completely understand. Hey Elissah, I *think* we talked about that very thing but worried that Wikipedians would reject most zine/zinester entries. I know Alex Wrekk had a hard time getting her entry to stand, and she's one of America's best known (i.e., "notable") zine makers. Does anyone see a workaround for this or another way into DBpedia??? Yes, we talked (and worried!) about it. Your summary is accurate, Jenna. I wonder if we could bring the conversation back to our use cases. Linked data facilitates two things: semi-easier data integration and SEO. But we *still* need a front-end union catalog for discovering zines across collections. We've talked about ZineWiki in the context of two conversations: - Authority control for zine titles and zinesters (ZineWiki article URL becomes the URI) - ZineWiki *as* the union catalog. In this approach, we've talked about using infoboxes for structured/linked data a la wikidata, and using categories or a similar construct for holdings information. Now, I said let's talk about our user stories because we could abandon/postpone the linked data aspect and still achieve a union catalog through ZineWiki. We're all busy, and this seems like low-hanging fruit while still being egalitarian and envelope-pushing in terms of cooperative cataloging / mutual metadata creation. Thoughts?
